Gait analysis is a non-invasive diagnostic method for in-depth examination and assessment of the way we walk or run.

This complex analysis is best carried out by qualified orthotic specialist, who use their training in human biomechanics for making accurate assessments of your movement. You don’t need a doctor’s referral to see one of our consultants and orthotic specialist at our MyORTHO centre for gait analysis, simply contact us to arrange an appointment.

Our computer gait analysis

At our MyORTHO centre we use computer gait analysis to examine, assess and treat conditions affecting your walking or running. Our computerised gait analysis equipment is excellent for detecting biomechanical faults in children’s developing feet, athletes and people who may have mobility difficulties in their senior years. Some typical biomechanical disorders we observe include:

  • Excessive pronation
  • Over supination
  • Ankle instability
  • Pelvic tilt
  • Poor shock absorption
  • Leg length discrepancies
  • Unusual walking / running patterns

Gait analysis and sports injury

MyORTHO consultants and specialist have a special interest in sports podiatry and find computer gait analysis a particularly useful tool for assessing running biomechanics. Using a treadmill, digital video and computer we can analyse your running style frame by frame. Biomechanical faults are more easily detected and this greatly assists in detecting any overuse sporting injury. Some common sports injuries include:

  • Shin splints (lower leg pain)
  • Plantar fasciitis (heel pain)
  • Achilles tendonitis
  • Ankle sprain
  • Knee pain
  • Stress fractures

We can correct your gait cycle

Once our consultants and specialist have assessed your walking or running pattern, they will then plan corrective treatment to iron out the biomechanical faults. Treatment may include:

  • Prescription Orthotic Insoles
  • Footwear advice
  • Strengthening and stretching exercises
  • Technique and training advice
